Abortos: Una Elección de Mujer

Abortion can be a solution for a lot of girls, but what we need to think is if it is a good and responsible way to make things right and to get rid of the consequences of a bad decision made in the past.

Actually abortion is, if we see it from a cold point of view, a way of killing an existing life. Already over 35 million unborn babies have been killed in the nearly 25 years since abortion was legalized in the United States. Each year, around 1.5 million babies are killed by abortion, one baby every 20 seconds.

Many scientists state that human life begins at conception, so abortion takes a new life and no society lets a human intentionally hurt or end the life of someone else without any punishment, and abortion is exactly that. It is the act of taking a human life even if the baby is unborn.

Although non wanted pregnancy is a very difficult situation for all the women who live it, abortion is not the only way to relieve oneself of the responsibility of the baby. There are some alternatives the mother can consider before getting rid of the “new life”.


There’s no need to kill a baby, adoption is one option if the parents don’t want to take care of the new baby. Besides, there are 1.5 million American families wanting to adopt a child, so the baby will for sure find a new family to love him or her.

Abortion is also a danger to the mother’s life, because it can result in medical complications: the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease increases, as does the risk of death during the act of the abortion. Finally it can frequently cause psychological damages and guilt.

To avoid all of these issues, the best way is to prevent pregnancy if you don’t want to have a baby, by using the different types of contraceptives or through abstinence but not through abortion. The parents of young girls should teach them to be responsible of their acts; parents should inculcate strong values to girls and boys equally since they are little kids to prevent future difficult situations for young people, like pregnancy is in the phase of adolescence. Also there must be a close communication and confidence between the family members in order that the parents could guide their kids in their sexual life and children feel free to ask for help in case of doubts about love, relationships and sex.
