Y la muerte... ¿Quién la dicta?

In the last few years, corruption, drug cartels, organized crime, kidnappings and other “hard” crimes have increased in many countries including Mexico, some proofs of that are the terrible news that are published in newspapers. Government is searching for a solution to the problem and the death penalty is being considered as the best option. That’s why it has been a topic of discussion for many committees and debates in many countries. I think that the death penalty must be legalized, but just applied to specific criminals and only when there is no doubt about the guiltiness of the criminal. The problem here is that there are many people against, because they consider that is an extreme measure.

The insecurity in Mexico has increased a lot in the last few years, especially because of the economical situation of the country, many people search for money that can be earned easily, and many of them become kidnappers, drug cartelers, etc. The Mexican’s party is the one that is supporting this legalization today, and recent surveys suggest that almost 70% of Mexicans are in favor of the death penalty, and the people are right in asking government for more security.

The people who are against the death penalty think that it will produce genocide. They think that if the corruption is as serious as it appears, judges would be easily bought, and incrimination would be the escape of the criminals from the death, many innocent people would die, and the criminals would continue creating chaos.

Religious and Human Rights defenders are the principal opponents of the legalization of the death penalty. The Chucrch think that only God can take lives, and that humans do not have that right, while the Human Rights defenders thinks that it presents a violation to one of the most important human rights, “the right to live.” Neither groups believe that humans must have the rights to take other lives, so what they propose is lengthier prison term for the criminals.

I just want to give all people an invitation to think about the death penalty. I think as many other people that it would reduce a lot some crimes, but just if it is applied honestly and in a good way, maybe we need to change a little the laws, but we must think about solutions, the future is now in our hands, we need to take a decision rapidly.
